What do Sikhs believe about God / concept of God?

Sikhs believe in one God, called Vaheguru, who is the creator, sustainer, and dissolver of everything. Vaheguru is not just energy or an idea, but a living, personal Being who loves everyone equally. In Sikhi, God is more than just a father or master. Vaheguru is also like a mother, friend, beloved, and guide, offering love in every form. While beyond creation, Vaheguru is also present in everything around us. Unlike some beliefs where only prophets could experience God, Sikhi teaches that everyone can directly see, hear, and experience Vaheguru through the guidance of the Satguru.

  1. Vaheguru is One: the Creator, Sustainer, and Dissolver of all; not just energy, but a Living, Personal Being.
  2. Loves all: unlike ideas of a God who favours or curses communities, Sikhi teaches Vaheguru is Nirbhau (Fearless), Nirvair (Without hate) and loves all equally.
  3. A Complete Relationship: Beyond viewing God only as Father or just the Master, Sikhi reveals Vaheguru as Mother, Father, Friend, Beloved, and Guide – love in every form.
  4. Beyond and within: Unlike views that God is distant or only in heaven, Vaheguru is beyond creation yet present within everything.
  5. Direct experience: Unlike beliefs where prophets could not see or hear God directly, Sikhi teaches that everyone has the opportunity to directly experience, see, and hear Vaheguru; revealing Himself through the Satguru to remove all doubt.
