Gurmat perspective on the belief of virgin birth of Jesus

Among Christians, there is a popular belief that Jesus Christ was born from Virgin Mary without any physical union. According to Gurmat, this belief is not supported. Gurbani clearly explains the reality of human birth and does not make exceptions for any individual.

Gurbani states:

From the union of the mother’s egg and the father’s sperm,
the form of infinite beauty has been created.
The blessings of light all come from You; You are the Creator Lord, pervading everywhere. ||4||

You have created birth and death.
Why should anyone fear, if they come to understand through the Guru?
When You, O Merciful Lord, look with Your kindness, then pain and suffering leave the body. ||5||

God is the father of all, but not in a physical sense
Gurmat accepts that Waheguru is the creator of all beings. In that sense, Waheguru is the father of everyone. However, this does not mean a physical father, nor does it imply that Waheguru has a spouse or produces children in a human way. Gurmat stays away from mythological explanations and symbolic stories that try to show greatness through extraordinary physical birth. In many religious traditions, followers often create such narratives to elevate their prophets or figures.

Teachings, suffering, and Gurmat stance
Jesus preached for a very short period, roughly three years, and did not write down his teachings himself. He also did not organize a lasting spiritual system in the way Gurmat was established. Some accounts mention that he could not bear the pain of his punishment and said, “O God, please take this cup of sorrow from me.”

Gurmat teaches something very different. A Gursikh accepts both pain and happiness as the Will of Waheguru and walks steadily in hukam. Suffering is not seen as something to escape, but something to accept with trust in divine will.

Final thoughts
Gurmat does not deny the existence of Jesus, nor does it speak out of hatred or disrespect. However, Gurmat does not accept the belief of virgin birth.
