The following are the Bhagats whose Bani is included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Historically, these Bhagats lived during the time of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, and according to Sikh history, they met Guru Ji and became His Sikhs.
The following are the 11 Bhatts whose Bani is enshrined in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. These Bhatts were originally Hindu Brahmins by background. In their deep spiritual search, they travelled across the Indian subcontinent for about a year, seeking true spiritual fulfillment. Their journey finally brought them to the Darbar of Sri Guru Arjun Dev Ji. Upon meeting Guru Ji, they left Hindu Dharam, embraced Sikhi, and became Sikhs of Guru Sahib. By Guru Sahib’s grace, they were blessed with the ability to utter Dhur Ki Bani.
In addition to them, there is a Vaar titled Ramkali Ki Vaar, which was recited by the Hazoori Raagis of Guru Sahib. The names of these Raagis are:
Lastly, a Bani titled Ramkali Sadd was revealed by Bhai Sunder Ji, the grandson of Sri Guru Amardas Ji.

This makes a total of 6 + 15 + 11 + 2 + 1 = 35 contributors.
Some Gursikhs believe that Bani of Bhai Mardana Ji is also included in Gurbani, but this is not accurate. The saloks titled Salok Mardana (Mahala) 1 are actually composed by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, likely addressed to Bhai Mardana Ji.
