What the Names of the Panj Pyaare Teach Us

  1. It is likely not coincidental that the first Pyara to step forward and offer his head to Guru Sahib was Bhai Daya Singh, symbolizing that the foundation of Dharma (religion) begins with Daya (compassion).

  2. Following Bhai Daya Singh Ji, Bhai Dharam Singh came forward, signifying that where Daya is present, Dharma naturally follows.

  3. The third Pyara, Bhai Himmat Singh, teaching us that where Daya and Dharma exist, Himmat (courage and valour) must also manifest.

  4. The fourth Pyara, Bhai Mohkam Singh, represents the strength that arises when Daya, Dharma, and Himmat unite, forming Mohkam (a Farsi term meaning strong and resolute).

  5. The fifth and final Pyara, Bhai Sahib Singh, embodies the understanding that where Daya, Dharma, Himmat, and Mohkam are present, Sahib (the Master, referring to Vaheguru) is found.
