The Panj Kakkaar, or Five Ks, are five sacred physical gifts from Guru Sahib that form a Sikh’s spiritual uniform, guiding Sikhs to live with discipline, dignity, and remembrance of Vaheguru. These five have existed since the start of Sikhi, all ten forms of the Guru wore a turban, Kachhera-shorts, and an iron Karra, and kept a sacred weapon and a Kangha-wooden comb, as seen in preserved historical relics. In 1699, this divine identity was formally reaffirmed within the Sikh code of discipline.

1. Kachhera (Holy Shorts of Decency): Reminds Sikhs to live with self-control, modesty, and readiness to serve.
2. Karra (Holy Iron Bangle of Integrity): A symbol of unity and strength, reminding Sikhs to do honest and good deeds.
3. Kirpan (Holy Sword of Courage and Compassion): A reminder to protect truth and defend others with kindness and bravery.
4. Kangha (Holy Wooden Comb of Cleanliness): Encourages cleanliness and order, keeping the body and mind disciplined.
5. Keski (Sacred hair covered with the Holy Turban of Responsibility): Kes (unshorn hair) respectfully covered with a turban is called Keski, emphasising the sacred importance of both the hair and the Dastaar in the Sikh identity, even though some Sikhs today focus mainly on Kes alone. The Keski protects the sacred hair and embodies respect, humility, discipline, and the complete Khalsa identity.
