He spent day and night in this practice and often read Sri Sukhmani Sahib many times a day. Other well-known Gursikhs like Sant Attar Singh Ji Mastuana Sahib, Sant Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale, and Bhai Veer Singh Ji also spoke about how important this Bani is. Baba Nand Singh Ji said that Sri Sukhmani Sahib is the best cure for the tricks of Maya and the distractions of Kalyug, showing how deeply spiritual and powerful it is.
While Sri Sukhmani Sahib is lengthy, its recitation becomes effortless with regular practice. This Bani comprises 24 sections called Ashtapadis, each beginning with a Salok. Every Ashtapadi contains eight stanzas, totaling 1975 lines. Despite its extensive structure, the verses are written in simple language, allowing for easy comprehension and meditation.

Spiritual and Worldly Advantages
The blessings of Sri Sukhmani Sahib go beyond just spiritual growth. History shows that both Sikhs and non-Sikhs have felt its powerful effects. Many have found deep mental peace, better health, and even success in life through its regular recitation. In the last Ashtapadi of this Bani, Guru Arjan Dev Ji explains that those who read it with love and devotion are freed from the cycle of birth and death. Their fears, doubts, and illnesses fade away, and they reach a state of deep spiritual awareness.
Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji shared a powerful story about the strength of Sri Sukhmani Sahib. His cousin, Tek Singh, was very sick with tuberculosis and had scary visions of yamas (messengers of death) in his last days. At that time, Bhai Sahib had recently taken Amrit and was deeply connected to Naam and the recitation of Sri Sukhmani Sahib. He was called to visit Tek Singh.
As soon as Bhai Sahib arrived, Tek Singh’s fear started to go away, and he felt calm in Bhai Sahib’s presence. Bhai Sahib kept reciting Sri Sukhmani Sahib for him, which brought great comfort. Even after Bhai Sahib left, the family continued the recitation, and Tek Singh passed away peacefully. This experience made Bhai Sahib’s faith in Gurbani even stronger, especially in how Sri Sukhmani Sahib can remove fear and give peace.
Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s words beautifully capture the essence of Sri Sukhmani Sahib:
ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਬਚਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਕਟੀ ਜਮ ਫਾਸੀ ॥
The Word of the Guru is eternal. The Word of the Guru cuts the noose of death.
