Meeting Waheguru: A Journey Through the Guru

The teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji explain the purpose of human life in simple but powerful words. It highlights that being born as a human is a special chance to connect with Waheguru, the Creator of the Universe. This article will explore the wisdom in Guru Granth Sahib Ji and the guidance it offers to help us meet Waheguru.

1. The Blessing of Human Birth:

ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
You have been blessed with this human body.
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.

During Rehras Sahib, we often read this verse, which reminds us of the special blessing of being born as a human. This life is rare and valuable, offering us a chance to grow spiritually and connect with Waheguru.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji gives a simple answer: we can meet Waheguru through the Guru. The Guru is our spiritual guide and shows us the way to Waheguru. The Guru’s teachings and guidance are essential for this journey.

4. The Essence of Mool Mantar:

The Mool Mantar (ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥) describes who Waheguru is and teaches us that we can connect with Waheguru only through the Guru’s grace (ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ).

5. The Greatest Satguru – Guru Nanak Dev Ji:

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੀ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੫੭॥
The highest of all is Satguru Nanak, who has protected (saved) me during Kaljug.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji says that Guru Nanak Dev Ji is the greatest of all (ਸਭ ਤੇ ਵਡਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਕਲ ਰਾਖੀ ਮੇਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੫੭॥). His teachings are considered the highest guidance to help us connect with Waheguru.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
The All-powerful Divine Guru is the Greatest of all.

Guru Granth Sahib Ji teaches that the Divine Guru is the most powerful (ਸਭ ਤੇ ਵਡ ਸਮਰਥ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥). This shows how important it is to have a true Guru to guide us on our spiritual journey.

7. Meeting the Beloved through the Perfect Guru:

ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਲਾਵੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਰਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਉ ਜਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਸਗਲ ਬਿਨਾਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਕੂਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
My Guru is perfect, my Guru is perfect.
Chanting the Lord’s Name, I am always at peace; all my illness and fraud is dispelled. ||1||Pause||

Gurbani Also makes it clear, those who have true loving desire to meet Waheguru, meet him through Guru.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਹੋਇ ॥
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
Whoever has true loving devotional worship deep within his being
meets the Lord, through the Perfect Guru. ||2||

8. Implanting the Naam – The True Name:

ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
From the Perfect Guru, the Naam is obtained.
Through the Shabad, the True Word of God, one merges in the True Lord. ||1||

Meeting the Perfect Guru results in receiving the Naam (True Name) (ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥), and chanting this Naam is emphasized as the way to merge with the True Lord.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

9. Bhagats Found Waheguru Through the Guru:

ਨਾਮਾ ਛੀਬਾ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਜੋੁਲਾਹਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
Naam Dayv the printer, and Kabeer the weaver, obtained salvation through the Perfect Guru.

Gurbani further reinforces that Bhagats, like Naam Dayv and Kabeer, found salvation through the Perfect Guru.

10. The Essential Role of Satguru in Discovering Waheguru:

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Without the True Guru, no one has obtained the Lord; without the True Guru, no one has obtained the Lord.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਓ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕੋ ਪਤੀਆਇ ॥

Without the True Guru, no one finds the Lord; anyone can try and see.
